FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Website plays matchmaker for footy players, coaches and clubs.

FootyRecruits.com is a simple way for clubs to find players & coaches.

Port Fairy, Victoria, February 8, 2012

Every year, one in five AFL players either retires or is de-listed.
With around 130 players retiring from senior AFL rank each year, there's a ready-made list of talent that can enhance lower-tier competitions across the country.
When players do find their way to these clubs, it’s often in an ad-hoc manner via word of mouth.

But now a new web-based service has been created to help match prospective players – including ex-AFL players, with metropolitan and country footy clubs.
The site, FootyRecruits.com, allows players to post their credentials, skill levels, personal preferences, history and photographs for clubs to view.
Registration is free for players and coaches, with the website helping them field offers from different clubs.

General manager of player development at the AFL Players' Association, Steve Alessio said the site was a great opportunity for players to receive offers from clubs when their AFL career is over.
“Many players who have competed at the top level still wish to play when their AFL career comes to a close,” says Alessio.
“Lots will play at a local level and this kind of website provides them with an opportunity to place themselves on the market and gauge interest from clubs looking for players of their calibre.
Alessio said some clubs could also throw in accommodation and employment opportunities as part of the deal.
“We encourage any service which helps provide opportunities for our members and have thrown our support behind this site.”

The AFL Players' Association is the representative body of all AFL players - past and present.
They ensure players receive welfare, education and career support during their time in the game.
This enables them to make the successful transition once the final siren has sounded on their AFL careers.
To assist in this transition, the Player Development Program was created to provide a range of support services unparalleled in the Australian sporting landscape.
The AFLPA have a program specifically configured for each and every AFL player, at both ends of his career.
Each year, the de-listed or retiring players meet with a Player Development Regional Manager to discuss how they will successfully transition out of the game.
The player is interviewed and made aware of the range of services that exist under the auspices of the AFL Players' Association.

Footy Recruits is a service for players (and coaches) that gives them easy access to positions that metropolitan and country football clubs have to offer.

Footy Recruits gives all players and coaches a new way of extending and controlling their careers.
They don't have to sit back and wait for offers. They can be their own agent.
They can be proactive by sending their profile, requirements and remuneration needs to clubs.
Players and coaches can negotiate with many clubs at a time, without any face to face pressure.
Look at what Jason Akermanis did in 2011.
He got large dollars to be a freelance player.
Footy Recruits now makes this process achievable, and the players can arrange their own remuneration packages on a weekly, monthly or annual basis.

Footy is no longer the same as it was decades ago.
In today's era it's a free agency for players, and they are permitted to move from club to club if they are not contracted.
They can move clubs for many reasons.
They may want the challenge of playing at a higher level.
They might be relocating inter-town or inter-state with their employer.
A club could have new employment positions that suit the qualifications of the player.
They could have played at high level and their body is unable to meet the challenges of major leagues or they might be relocating to be close to a university.

Club loyalty is different for a lot for today's young players.
They no longer feel like they have to stay with one club for their entire playing career.

But clubs still need to recruit fresh new talent each year, and they find it very difficult and frustrating to do.
The duration of football recruiting has gradually changed in Australia.
It no longer begins once a season comes to an end; it's now a 365 days a year assignment.
It means that clubs in all leagues are continually facing the battle to attract high quality players and coaches.

Footy Recruits is good for the sport.
Until now there's been no adequate service that addressed this ongoing problem.
It's a simple solution to the recruiting hassles that football clubs all over Australia face each year.

Footy Recruits is growing.
Football clubs from all over Australia are now discovering the new service.
Over 570 clubs are using Footy Recruits to find and sign new team members.
The website has also had interest from clubs in over 30 countries.
